Location: exceptional for a first Florence stay
The 62-room Unbound Collection hotel occupies a historic building on Via de’ Tornabuoni near Piazza Santa Trinita. Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, Palazzo Vecchio, Duomo, and major shopping streets are reachable on foot. Florence rewards this kind of central base because most sightseeing happens at walking speed.
Rooms: theatrical rather than neutral
Red, blue, gold, patterned wallpaper, bird imagery, and contemporary furniture create a deliberate Renaissance fantasy. Travelers wanting beige minimalism should book elsewhere. Rooms vary substantially within the historic structure, so compare square footage and configuration rather than relying on a category name.
Service recovery made the stay
Our initial room lost hot water. After reporting the problem, the hotel moved us to a much larger suite. A failure should not occur, but prompt and meaningful recovery matters more than pretending luxury hotels never have maintenance problems.
Dining and facilities
The Butterfly Terrace is the reason to have at least one drink in the hotel, especially near sunset. Breakfast and Il Magnifico are convenient, but Florence has too much food nearby to make hotel dining mandatory. The fitness room is weak for a hotel at this price.
Points and luxury-channel bookings
The original post described a fixed Category 7 award and old Amex/Delta credit structures. Do not use those numbers now. Hyatt award categories, peak/off-peak pricing, FHR eligibility, statement credits, and included benefits can change. Compare the actual flexible cash rate, Hyatt points price, and eligible luxury-program package for the same dates.
